Nebraska - For the second time this year!

Jak and I drove through Nebraska (as fast as we could!) in January when we helped Grammy & Opa make the big move to Colorado.  In the dead of winter, there is very little reason to stop in Nebraska.  But in August, it's really quite a nice drive.  The Colorado Kerschen's were the first to arrive at Lake Ogallala for what promised to be an epic Hanou Camping Weekend!  Opa reserved 5 camp sites on Lake Ogallala (near Lake McConaughy) almost a year ago.  He has mapped out the "Path of Totality" and on Monday, we will venture a few miles from the camp to view the much talked about Solar Eclipse.  But in the meantime, we planned ahead to eat lots, kayak and boat lots, fish and play games and relax together.  Moments after pulling into camp, Grammy wanted to give all of the grandkids a juice box.  The first sharp tool she came across in the newly rented camper was a large kitchen knife.  She cut through the ridiculously think packaging, and through part of her hand as well.  Unfortunately, it required a few stitches and Opa and Grammy spent the first night of our well planned camping trip in the ER.  Fortunately, Lake MacConaughey is a large enough lake and tourist attraction to merit it's own hospital.  Otherwise, they may have had to drive a long way to find an emergency room open on a Friday evening.  It was a terrible start to our trip but they made the most of it and Grammy was a trouper the rest of the weekend!
The Coloradan's are not used to camping in hot, muggy and buggy conditions. We were grateful to plug our campers in to the electricity and keep our A/C running day and night.  Poor Ian and Kim and the kids didn't have A/C in their camper and sleeping wasn't easy in those conditions.   But they also made the most of it and had a great time.  And the temperature was really comfortable sitting on a boat in the middle of the lake!  It's amazing how much fun you can have doing nothing.
